At the foundation of each crown lies an intricate twisted base, formed from multiple fine strands of sterling silver wire. Carefully braided together, the silver creates a textured, luminous surface that plays beautifully with the light, symbolising the intertwined paths of bride and groom. This delicate craftsmanship brings depth and movement to the design, giving the crowns a distinctive modern elegance.
Set along the entire circumference are sparkling, square-cut crystals in vibrant tones, each meticulously placed to create a rhythmic burst of colour and brilliance. These stones are secured within refined silver-plated casings, ensuring both durability and a harmoniously polished finish. The interplay of shimmering silver and glowing colour creates a lively, celebratory aura that perfectly reflects the richness of the life the couple begins together.
In the Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony, the stefana hold profound meaning. Joined by a ribbon, they form a visible sign of the sacred bond blessed upon the bride and groom. The circular crowns symbolise the honour and glory bestowed by God as the couple enters their new life together. During the Crowning, the priest exchanges the stefana three times above their heads, invoking unity, spiritual protection, and the shared responsibility with which they will guide their home.
Once the ceremony concludes, the crowns are reverently removed, marking the beginning of the couple’s journey as husband and wife. Many newlyweds preserve their stefana in a glass display case, placing them in a special corner of their home — often the bedroom — as a lasting reminder of their vows, blessings, and the sacredness of the moment they were united.
